Problem Note 57617: Single-byte and double-byte character set spaces are trimmed differently in SAS® Enterprise Guide® 5.1 as compared to SAS® Enterprise Guide® 7.1

DetailsAboutRate It

When you use SAS Enterprise Guide to generate a SAS data set and then export it to an XLSX format file, you might notice that single-byte character set (SBCS) and double-byte character set (DBCS) spaces are trimmed differently in SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1 as compared to the 5.1 release.

This behavior applies only to XLSX format.

In SAS Enterprise Guide 5.1

  • SBCS space — Any SBCS space in the data set will be trimmed after the data set is exported to an XLSX file.
  • DBCS space — Only a leading DBCS space can be exported. Therefore, the variable value has to start with a DBCS space, followed by any other characters. In any other case, a DBCS space is trimmed.

In SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1

  • SBCS space — Only a leading SBCS space can be exported. Therefore, a variable value has to start with a SBCS space, followed by any other characters. In any other case, a SBCS space will be trimmed.
  • DBCS space — Any DBCS space will remain, which means that no matter what position of the DBCS space the data is in, SAS Enterprise Guide will export it successfully to XLSX format file.
